Safety

in Florida's Natural Settings

In order to create a children’s wilderness program that helps build deep connections with nature safety must come into consideration. In our program, children will have their safety needs met so they can relax and learn peacefully in nature.

Here in Florida, there are many perceived challenges that keep kids at a distance from nature. Forest School Sarasota helps to nurture connection to natural Florida through guided (and not guided but supervised) time spent in nature. Our educational approach is one of loving curiosity and skill-based safety. With each challenging encounter we face in nature, comes great opportunity to teach, learn and build awareness and mindfulness. Children will learn important safety skills that protect the earth, it’s plants and animals, and themselves.

Our teachers and volunteers are trained and certified in CPR, First Aid and Wilderness Rescue and Wilderness First Aid. We have safety action plans for all potential situations and we are fully supplied with first aid equipment.

Finally, and most importantly, is preparedness or having the correct gear. When you register, we will go through the appropriate gear required for class.

More detailed information and our emergency action plans will be provided in our Parent and Child Handbook (coming soon to the website) that will be emailed after your childs registration. We have a required parent orientation prior to the first day of class. Additionally, we will have group celebrations and family camping where we can practice our nature skills together as families in community.
